In any relationship, it’s often the little things that cause the most frustration. In this case, it was laundry.

Peter’s wife nagged him endlessly about being absolutely, 100% certain that everything was taken out of his pants pockets before they could be washed. Three years ago, Peter left an ink pen in his pants pocket, ruining all of his khaki work pants.

To help Peter and his wife stop endlessly bickering over the contents of his pants pockets, we offered a favorite tip –

“Pull your pants pockets inside out, like bunny ears.”

We told Peter to do this before he put them in a hamper, and then we suggested that he use a baseball cap turned upside down to hold the contents of your pockets.

Now, if his wife sees the rabbit ears on a pair of pants, they are safe to wash. No ears, no wash. The laundry war was over.

By looking for a simple solution to implement, Peter and his wife were able to remove a major source of tension in their relationship.

When you find yourself getting frustrated by the little things in life, it’s time to stop, take a deep breath, and look for a solution. Instead of getting upset and blaming each other, work together to find a way to fix the problem.

Often, things as simple as bunny ears and baseball caps can make your relationship much more healthy and enjoyable.
